The Impatient Gardener

The impatient gardener - that's me. I want to plant things NOW and see them grow and harvest them...right now. 

Plants take time, so I tend to rush things, but I don't care. I'm enthusiastic about my garden, and that's what matters. 

Having a ton of polymer clay leftover from my miniature food obsession, I decided I could finally make some weather resistant garden markers, so for the past couple days I've been fiendishly rolling out strips of clay and embossing them with plant names using a clay embossing set I got for a song with a coupon at JoAnn's. 

Here's the finished product - they're sharp on the ends, slightly flexible and color coordinated to the crop they represent [as close as possible]. 

I won't be able to use them all this year, but I have a wide variety that should cover just about anything I want to grow. 

Now to start coaxing my little seedlings out of the ground!!

The bathroom is decked out in soothing green, ready for a steamy shower.

 

 

 

Brunch is served in the kitchen - fresh bagels, muffins, Danish and banana Belgian waffles!

 

 

 

Pardon the basket of laundry in the bedroom, moving in is a lot of work!

 

 

 

 

Time to relax in the book nook with a great paranormal romance! Plenty of books on the TBR shelf!

 

 

 

A delivery pizza, pretzels, chips and dip and some drinks are ready for movie night in the living room. Just gotta find the remote!

 

Here's one more shot of the kitchen, with burgers and dogs for dinner, a nice plate of veggies to dip and a key lime pie for dessert!

Now what? I need a new project...

Wine and cheese party - with some pumpkin and apply pie for a sweet finish.

 

Ice cream parlor - strawberry milkshake, a frozen latte, green bubble tea smoothie, lemon merengue and blueberry pie, chocolate mousse, a cherry sundae and a chocolate ice cream cone.

 

Ready for more presentation boards - I've got key lime pie and peach tart, Easter bread, coconut cake and pineapple upside down cake. For the bakery I've got a French baguette, a Danish, a blueberry muffin and some bagels along with a tray of cannoli. For the picnic, hot dogs, a hamburger and a cheeseburger.

These bottle cap pies are actually a lot easier to make than they look.

Cheese for the wine and cheese soiree.

Country breakfast display - eggs, bacon, buttered toast, croissants, donuts, cinnabons and of course, quiche!

Fancy dessert reception - have some layer cake, strawberry shortcake, chocolate soufflé, chocolate Bundt cake, but that spice cake with the blue flowers is just too pretty to cut!

Because fairy doors weren't enough... I finally decided it was time to take the plunge and give polymer clay a try. I've been avoiding it because clay gets annoying after a while - you have to store it, condition it, it can be messy and polymer clay needs to be baked, which can also be a time consuming pain.

But since I'm always looking for things that will consume time...

Bought myself a nice set for not too much money.

Started out making some gnomes. Meet Doolittle, Angus and Frye.

Made some fairy pumpkins.

Had Onyx inspect the doppleganger cats.

 

 

And then I finally lost my mind and decided to delve into the wild world of miniature food.

 

Bottle cap pies. My latest obsession. More to come!

Finished it! Now I have a plant with a face. And I can't over water it!

This interlude of procrastination was brought to you by Crayola Clay - something every 47-year-old needs. It occurred to me while I was making my fake plant person that maybe I should question why, at my age, I spend a weekend afternoon playing with clay and paint. Is it because there's something wrong with me? Should I be doing what other people do - going to the gym, cleaning the house incessantly, watching TV or shopping? Is it because I'm young at heart or immature? Is there a difference? 

I am Groot.

I've said on a number of occasions that my problem with plants is that I tend to treat them like animals - as if they need constant attention and tending, daily feedings, pettings and reassurances that they are loved.

This is probably why most of the plants I've had have died. Plants don't need or want this kind of human interference, but I persevere, dribbling water on them every day, moving them around to get the best light, worrying if they've spent too much time alone...

I know. It's a problem. As a determined gardener, I'm trying very hard to stop this and treat plants like plants - living creatures that, for the most part, don't need me to oversee every aspect of their lives. [So I bought a moss ball that needs to be bathed once a week...]

Anyway, as if I wasn't having a hard enough time ignoring my terrariums so they will grow, I saw GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY on Thursday night and immediately decided I needed to have a sentient plant in my life. So I spent this afternoon crafting a baby Groot out of wood and clay and some wire. I have to paint it in a more realistic fashion when the clay is dry, then plant it in a pot. I think it turned out pretty good so far. I promise not to water it.
